I feel like I have made a huge discovery! Recently I have read several postings on making microwaved popcorn with just a brown paper sack and a few tablespoons of kernels…no oil! My interest was piqued….
During my journey to my goal weight, I literally ate a bag of 100 calorie (1 pt) popcorn a day. EVERYDAY! I figure that I ate about 112 bags of popcorn. If I calculate $2.00/box of 3 bags of popcorn, I spent $93.33!
Also, there have been recent concerns in the media regarding potentially toxic chemicals found in microwave popcorn bags. This technique promised to address both the health and monetary reasons for switching.
This “recipe” is truly a money saver, as well as way to eliminate unnecessary additives. A 100 count bag of paper lunch sacs is $2.49 and a 30 ounce bag of popcorn kernels is $4.39 (Safeway.com). That’s about .15 cents for a 3 cup bag of popcorn!
Of special note… I could also include the cost of my dental crown in the total cost of the microwave popcorn. How did I miss the memo that crunching unpopped kernels was one of the worst things you can do for your teeth? My dentist set me straight and I no longer crunch. But oh, how I miss it!
