dutch baby

My husband’s family introduced me to this yummy breakfast 22 years ago and it’s been a great go-to meal since.  Very easy to make with only four ingredients.  And it’s rare I don’t have those ingredients on hand.  The hardest part is waiting for the oven to preheat to 425 degrees!

Dutch Baby

  • 1 cup flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp. butter

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.  Place flour, eggs and milk into a blender and mix until smooth.

When the oven has preheated, melt 2 Tbsp. butter in a cast-iron skillet on the stove over medium high heat. You could also place skillet in oven, add the butter and wait until melted.  Butter will slightly brown.  Pour batter into skillet and place in oven.  Bake until puffed up and golden, 15-20 minutes.  Serve with jam and powdered sugar.

I used the recipe builder on Weightwatchers.com and calculated the WW pts+ value to be 3 pts+ for 1/8 of the dutch baby (using skim milk and regular butter), not including toppings.

    I’ve made this many times. I like that I can even do two at a time with double ovens and feed 8 people. It’s an all time favorite among my grandchildren.
